Happy international Women’s day !! Here’s just a few of some incredible women I have been lucky enough to work with in aged care and education sectors. Subhadra, Mia, Kathleeen, Princess, Sarah, Joana, Michelle, Natasha to name a few. I continue to learn and grow with them and the amazing women ( and men) we work with every day !
Who would have thought a session staring out talking about what food means in our lives would end up with a lively dance rendition of Tina Turner's Nutbush City Limits? 🕺🏻 Thanks to the residents and students for their lively participation last week - with Brodie pleasantly surprised at the accuracy of his numerology reading by Beatrice, talk of days of horses and carts between Zackary & Graham and even some excited planning of some Greek dancing demonstration by Kyra, Maddie J & Maddy D with the lovely ladies from Golden Grove, Jeanette, Iris and Nina. Denis was a dazzling dancer as we waltzed to Andrew Gold's "Thank you for being a Friend" and thanks to Peter's daughter letting us know about Peter's love of Neil Diamond and Tina Turner, we ended the session with a great laugh and dance demonstration from the students . This week is Seniors Festival across NSW - the largest celebration for seniors in the Southern Hemisphere and our chance to thank, celebrate and recognise seniors for the positive contributions they make to the community through hosting a range of different activities that they can enjoy. I’m thrilled that it also marks the kick off to our trial with Sylvania High School and residents from Hammond Care Miranda who will finally meet tomorrow. Jeanette (left) and Iris ( right) pictured here living it up at their dance 🕺🏻 class with Emma, are looking forward to connecting with the students. Jeanette, who grew up in Redfern, is a huge fan of musicals and will no doubt wow the students with her ❤️ for music from Sticky Fingers to the Rolling Stones and stories of travelling the world. Iris hails from Chile where she studied at the University of Chile to. Become a medical technologist and later worked in Australia at the Prince of Wales oncology unit looking after patients who were undertaking chemotherapy, preparing them for treatment, taking their bloods and helping them throughout the day.
